The Bluegrass Area Jazz Association operates and manages the Bluegrass Area Jazz Ambassadors, and is a 501(c)3 organization, actively seeking support!

Exposure
The Jazz Ambassadors regularly perform:

  • Concerts and clinics with nationally recognized jazz artists (Bill Watrous, Jeff Coffin)
  • Christmas concert at UK’s Singletary Center
  • “Big Band Blast” concert with local middle and high school bands
  • Spring concert at UK’s Singletary Center

  • Ecton Park concert, as part of their Tuesday night summer jazz series

Integrity
The Jazz Ambassadors is an audition-only admissions band, and includes many fine students and the best semi-professional musicians in the Lexington area.  Student participation further reinforces our mission of outreach and community involvement.

Leadership
The band is led by Artistic Director Miles Osland, and by Musical Directors Raleigh Dailey and Mark Clodfelter.  Miles Osland is currently Professor of Saxophone and Director of Jazz Studies at the University of Kentucky.  Raleigh Dailey is Professor of Jazz Piano at UK.  The two have toured extensively throughout the country, and are both recipients of the Kentucky Art Council’s Al Smith Fellowship for Excellence in Composition.  Mark Clodfelter is Professor of Trumpet at UK, and has performed world-wide with various artists, including Doc Severinsen and the late Ray Charles.

Sponsorship Opportunities
The Jazz Ambassadors does not promote itself as a band for hire, however there are several ways an organization might contribute to BAJA.  Contributions are tax-deductible.

  • Sponsor a scheduled performance
  • Sponsor a musician (by paying a musician’s annual fee)
  • Sponsor a scholarship opportunity for an area student
  • Gifts in-kind
  • Purchase advertisement space in programs and posters
  • Become a “BAJA Buddy” by contributing to operational costs
